After the end of the shallow marine crew Tony Morgan and I were despatched to help out on a Nigerian land crew (Party 126) at Nsukka, near Enugu. We weren't actually part of the working crew but were there to catch up on a backlog of uncomputed or problematic survey data...and problematic it was. Most of it had been made up.
The crew lived in the house (above left), which was also the office. It was made up of four flats, all of which were rented by SSL. The electricity supply was a constant problem so they had a stand-by generator in the yard, and a long piece of cable with a 13 amp plug on each end. I'm not sure that I need to explain further but in case any of you don't get it...one end was plugged into the socket on the genny and the other into a convenient socket in any one flat, depending on the requirement. Safety? What safety?
Left is the crew surveyor who's name I can't remember and right is Tony in the jungle.
We occasionally frequented the bar at a local motel. Seen here is myself (left) and Jim Gulliford (right).
